Published in the Novemmber 2008 issue of The Horse Resource, the official magazine of the NPBA and IBRA

If you’ve ever found yourself teetering into the barn on Christmas morning under a huge pile of gifts for your horse, then you are no doubt looking forward to your Christmas shopping this year.  After all, it’s a great excuse to generously give to friends, family, loved ones, and, well, your horse.  When else can you so selflessly accessorize your equine pal without feeling the least bit guilty?  So before you spend too much time pondering gifts for those seldom-seen relatives, consider these reasons for shopping for your horse instead!

1. Unlike your sister's teenagers, your horse doesn't expect cash.

2.  If you do happen to get the wrong size, your horse is unlikely to spend the next decade holding a grudge.

3.  Your best mare just happens to need the same amazing show bridle that you've had your eye on, and she's more than willing to share it with you.

4.  However long his nose, your horse is unlikely to look down it at your choice of gifts.

5.  Your horse will not give the same gift in return next year, nor will he be so bold as to ask for your to include it in your next yard sale.

6.  There's no way you'll get a fruitcake in return!

7.  Celebrating Christmas in a manger just seems like the right thing to do.
